Each year, the Nebraska Writing Project hosts the Write The River event! This event was created by NeWP, the Niobrara National Scenic River, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to provide an educational writing experience for high school students while also connecting them to the land and having fun!!
During this event, students had the opportunity to canoe along the river, taking various stops to learn about the area and the river from NPS Rangers from the Niobrara Scenic River, and, of course, participate in writing prompts and activities facilitated by NeWP teacher consultants along the way. The 2025 program had 13 participants and took place on August 25, 2025! This opportunity is provided for several local high schools in the region, and the hope is to create a creative experience that connects students beyond the classroom!
