As a new teacher, Alexis gained critical and thoughtful insights to teaching writing and being a writer from the Summer Institute. She brings her love of literature to the classroom and challenges her students to be critical thinkers in their writing and fosters an appreciation for reading. Her utmost joy as an English teacher is seeing students make real-life connections between literature and the world around them.

Outside of school, Alexis loves to travel and explore different cultures. She had the privilege of touring Europe with the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music in 2017, visiting England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Lichenstein, Italy, and Germany. More recent trips include experiencing Othello performed live by Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in NYC, New York; seeing “La Bufadora” in Ensenada, Mexico; parasailing in Catalina Island, California; and sunbathing and swimming in the Caribbean. 

Alexis joined the NeWP board in 2026 to engage with a community of educators committed to strengthening writing instruction and their own writing craft.
