Chase found his way to education through writing, leaving a career in finance to become a high school English and creative writing instructor. Outside work as an editor and critic in the field of comics first led him to a classroom where he recognized the incredible significance of writing upon shaping our society and the import of those who teach it. He has taught at Omaha North since 2018 where he emphasizes student-led projects, historical perspective-taking, and considerations of social justice. In addition to his work with upperclassmen, Chase also publishes North's annual literary magazine, Ember, and leads the school's Dungeons & Dragons club. He came to join the Nebraska Writers Project in the summer of 2024, and it opened new horizons in what secondary writing education could accomplish. This led him to join the NeWP board with the goal of collaborating with and supporting others in developing new generations of writers, storytellers, and activists across Nebraska.
