When asked how the NeWP has impacted her view of writing, Diana described the community the Writing Project creates, saying, "You don't feel alone. There's always such a powerful discussion on writing. It is an organic discussion and it's different every year, but everyone walks away feeling heard and better informed in practice. To have those kinds of discussions with your pieces and know that they are out there doing good work, helps quite a bit." As an educator with experience teaching various age levels, Diana sees the value of collaborating with teachers from all academic subjects and grades, saying, "It doesn't matter what grade level you work with; there is a lot about writing and the teaching of writing that is the same throughout. What we are all basically teaching is how to communicate thinking clearly, and there is value in learning from teachers who have had other experiences. Through conversations with other teachers, the NeWP redirected me to a different understanding of writing." Diana explains, "In a world where most staff development deals with the how and when. The Nebraska Writing Project brought me to the 'why' behind both the teaching and writing process. I have appreciated this as it speaks directly to the part of writing that hooks us (teacher, student) into writing. I love being part of that discussion and consider it a gift."
