Gracie attended the 2024 Summer Institute and greatly enjoyed learning with several of her colleagues from her UNL days, as well as making connections with new teachers from across the state. She has been teaching 6th grade ELA and Young Adult Literature at Kiewit Middle School in Omaha since 2023. When she is not wrangling 6th graders, Gracie enjoys spending time with more children by judging high school speech with her sister, Ava.
In her own words, “There has never been a time when I have not loved words– how they sound, how they look, how they fit together, and how they can create something greater than the sum of their parts. One of the greatest challenges of becoming a teacher has been breaking down the science of words so that I can share it with my students, as my own love for words is not inherent to each child I teach.” Gracie credits much of her students’ writing success to the knowledge she gained from her NeWP Institute experience (along with lots of hopes, prayers, and the occasional Jolly Rancher bribe).
