As a college professor, Rachael finds that working with teachers of all instructional levels offers her innovative and exciting ideas for teaching writing. The Nebraska Writing Project gives her "a community of smart, capable teachers to rely on," which offers a shared knowledge of expertise from different contexts that makes everyone involved better teachers. When asked what key ideas she has learned from her time in the NEWP, she described her work with the C3WP Program: "One foundational principle in the program is that you don't figure out your thesis and then find research to back it up. You constantly re-evaluate your thesis in light of evidence. You encourage students to evolve their thinking and have it become more nuanced in response to evidence. That's something that our society needs desperately right now. With writing, we can learn how to meaningfully engage with those we may not agree with and encounter new perspectives that can shape our thinking in powerful ways."
