Rachel currently works at Doane University as an Academic Specialist, teaching developmental writing and reading courses and advising students. Prior to this, Rachel worked at Concordia University in Seward, NE, teaching Literacy in the Content Areas and Secondary Methods in English Language Arts. Rachel also spent nine years at Lincoln Lutheran Middle/High School, teaching students in grades 7-12 via a writing/reading workshop, integrating its practices into Dual Credit, and using evidence-based argument writing as a foundation to an Interpersonal Communications class.

Since her participation in the 2010 Summer Institute, Rachel has remained connected to the Nebraska Writing Project, participating in many Writing Marathons and Advanced Institutes. Her reason for staying connected and committed to NeWP has everything to do with the network of passionate, professional teachers she stays connected to. "I think that the network of professionals that the Nebraska Writing Project creates is incredible," she said. "When I started, I was so nervous to join a room of experienced and dynamic teachers. I found a great community that helped me see the holes in my teaching so graciously. Even when I made mistakes as an early teacher, I found encouragement and support."
