Our 2026 Youth Writing Camps were a success!
Young Writers Camp, a two-week program for young writers grades 8-12 to engage with multiple forms of writing, welcomed students from south-eastern Nebraska for workshops in slam poetry, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, mystery, song-writing, poetry, memoir, and screen writing. The camp ran July 13 - 24 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Guest speakers included 2025 Nebraska State Poet Jewel Rodgers, who shared spoken poetry, gave a lesson on duplex poetry, and facilitated a poetry writing workshop for campers.
Young Writers Camp Out West was a one-day camp in Gering, Nebraska on June 13th. This new camp gave Young Writers in the western part of the state to participate in writing workshops with other young writers and facilitators. Workshops were given in multiple different forms of writing, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and roleplay games.
I Love to Write camps, a week of interactive writing workshops for our youngest writers with focus on a variety of fun-filled writing styles, activities, and sharing, ran June 1-5. Sandra Peter and Susan Dinsdale led three different groupings of workshops, including I Love to Write, for ages 7-11, I Love to Write 2, for ages 12-15, and We Love to Write, for families and young writers together.
